  1. The following activities are currently ongoing, with the support of The Asia Foundation :
    • Book on Commercial Mediation in Sri Lanka : The IADRC is currently writing the material for a book on the history of commercial mediation in Sri Lanka. The book will contain information with regard to all initiatives undertaken and legislation enacted from the inception to current times, and will contain a comprehensive commentary on the legislation enacted as well as those currently under preparation and on Sri Lanka’s adoption of the UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (New York, 2018) (the "Singapore Convention on Mediation")
    • Activities to create awareness and knowledge of Mediation :
      • Awareness Programmes are scheduled to be held in Jaffna, Kandy and Hambanthota, Ratnapura and Kurunegala.
      • Discussions with heads of corporate entities
      • Discussions with the business chambers
      • Webinars amongst young lawyers, law students, business community.
    • National Symposium on Commercial Mediation (September 2023) : to provide a forum to users and prospective users and practitioners of mediation, to discuss aspects of mediation and to popularize mediation.
  2. The IADRC is participating in the Pilot programme of the USAID funded Effective and Efficient Justice Activity (EEJ)- (June 2023 - August 2023) : IADRC Mediators are participating in this Pilot programme whereby companies are offered the opportunity to have disputes mediated by trained Mediators from overseas as well as Sr Lankan mediators. This is a unique opportunity to experience a real mediation of a commercial disputes. There are no fees charged for the mediation. In addition to the participation of the IADRC’s accredited Mediators, the Center will also provide administration support for the conduct of the mediations.
  3. The IADRC Mediation cluster

    The IADRC maintains a collective of its trained mediators in a grouping that meets regularly to engage in the following activities :

    • Discuss thematic topics learnt in training ;
    • Practice skills and enhance knowledge, including through role play and mocks
    • Discuss domestic developments in the ADR landscape;
    • Discuss global developments and the relevance to Sri Lanka;

    The cluster meetings have proved to be extremely valuable to keep the learnings updated and to exchange views on global developments and learn of best practices.
